ChemCatBio to Demonstrate Catalyst Cost Estimation Tool at 2018 AIChE Annual Meeting in Pittsburgh

Please join ChemCatBio for a tutorial workshop on how to use the consortium's soon-to-be-released Catalyst Cost Estimation Tool at the 2018 American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) Annual Meeting, which will take place in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, October 28–November 2, 2018.

Currently under development by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory and Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, the Catalyst Cost Estimation Tool will be released online and free-of-charge in the fall of 2018. This first-of-its-kind tool estimates the large-scale production costs of pre-commercial catalysts based on their lab-scale syntheses and characteristics. The tool provides cost insight for key decisions throughout the catalyst development process.

The tool will support catalyst research and development (R&D) and deployment through:

  1. Identification of major cost drivers and "problem steps"

  2. Meaningful cost comparisons between catalysts using quantitative cost information

  3. Nuanced sensitivity and risk analyses to aid scale-up and commercialization

  4. Assessment of the value proposition for advanced catalysts that have no current industrial analogue.

The goal of the workshop, "Tutorial on the Catalyst Cost Estimation Tool: Economic Insight for Catalyst Synthesis and Scale-Up Research," is to demonstrate uses and capabilities of the tool and how catalyst researchers can apply the information it provides to R&D. Watch this video for an overview of some of the estimation tool's features:

The AIChE Annual Meeting is the premier educational forum for chemical engineers and covers a wide range of topics relevant to cutting-edge research, new technologies, and emerging growth areas in the field. Register for the 2018 AIChE and plan to attend the ChemCatBio workshop; the deadline to submit abstracts is April 18, 2018. For more information and details, please contact us.
